What Does a Resume Do ?

A resume is a doorknob. It works if it gets you into the room.

Studies show that readers spend an average of fifteen seconds – not minutes, seconds – on a resume before deciding whether to read further. This means you must hit them quick with your best stuff.

  • Accomplishments. Quantitative is great.
  • Capabilities. What can you do for them ?
  • Differentiators. Why you and not the next guy ?

What It Ain’t

A resume is not a journal or a diary.

There are many factors here but generally one page for each five years in the workforce, not to exceed three or four pages tops, is about right.
